Frequently asked questions

What forms of payment do you accept?

Billing goes through Simple Practice and credit card payments are through Stripe. Your payment will show up as Cairn Wellness & Counseling. Simple Practice is a HIPAA compliant secure portal that keeps your information safe and confidential. I auto-charge payments after appointments and for no-shows/late cancellations to avoid card handling.

Do you bill Insurance?

I do not accept insurance for a variety of reason but I do provide monthly super bills that can be submitted to employers. Health Savings Cards can be utilized for services. Additionally, I do not provide diagnosis codes unless requested—as I feel this can negatively impact a client’s ability to receive future insurance coverage.

What are your office hours?

I am available to clients from Tuesday through Friday and presently only have daytime availability. However, I do offer walk-in-talk therapy on Mondays at Forest Park and schedule weekend intensives as-needed.

What is the cancellation policy?

Advance notice is always appreciated as therapy is a place where reserved time is held for you. Scheduled appointments must be canceled 48 hours in advance or the full session fee will be charged.

Can I switch my appointment to telehealth?

Yes! The pandemic has optimized telehealth or distance counseling services for those who can't make it to the office. With so many unknowns, especially for parents or couples, distance therapy is readily available. While telehealth technology opens doors for new distances I am only able to serve those who live in Missouri at this time due to licensure.

How do I know if I am ready to begin therapy?

Ask yourself if you’re ready to make the commitment. Therapy isn’t a magic pill, it takes time, a willingness to work, and financial energy. Some sessions may feel draining and other times you may feel relief. My practice suggests new clients to commit to weekly sessions for the first 8 weeks. Research has found that therapeutic success depends on an upfront weekly commitment in order for progress to be made.

I think I/We would be a good fit but I need reassurance. Do you offer a free consultation?

I completely understand this disposition, therapy is an investment in not only your time but your financial energy. I offer a free 20-minute phone or video consultation for this reason. Let’s connect.

What are your fees?

I approach therapy as an investment, which is something that can be particularly difficult for some people. Please refer to my “services” for more clarity around costs and length of services.
